This painting represents Mariko’s first foray into the world of oil painting. It depicts her Maltese-Chihuahua rescue dog, Hope, back when he was a puppy. The name “Hope” comes from the role pets play in Mariko’s life, as a spark of light in her struggles against depression. Hope has now become one of her favourite subjects in her painting practice.
