Copper Jewellery for the Post-Apocalypse
In this work, Mariko imagines what jewellery might be like in a post-apocalyptic scenario. Here, agricultural fields have been destroyed and food is scarce, forcing survivors to turn to the sea and its abundance of fish. Designed with utilitarian goals in mind, her knife pendant, shark tooth ring, and fishing hook charm are handmade from common copper using basic techniques, in recognition of the challenges faced by the remnants of humanity thrust suddenly into technological darkness.
