Coloration
During the first half of the 21st century the Australian government tried to create a single uniformed white Australian culture. Assimilation policies were implemented towards Aboriginal people in order to bleed the ‘blackness’ out. Through this we can then see the gradient of colour from the full-blood Aboriginals, half-caste, quarter-caste and so on. These ceramic pieces reflect the variance in colouration of darker, lighter and in-between in reflection of the assimilation policy. The long-lasting effects of this policy on Aboriginal communities is representative in the cracks in the ceramic faces.
