Food Soliloquies
'Food Soliloquies' is a four-part book exploring the perceptions and treatment of food, using personification to give food a voice. Yibei Gao’s work aims to incite public concerns about the food market and eliminate food prejudice by taking the audience on a journey that relates the mistreatment of imperfect foods to human social problems. Through this work Gao examines key issues including the pressures to be perfect and how we can become captive to people’s perceptions. Gao concludes in the final chapter that there is a need to breakdown stereotypes surrounding ‘ugly foods’, encouraging us all to re-evaluate and relabel food in our own daily lives.
