Sean Jackson (Serene Ceramics)
Master of Art
Iron Red
With over 10 years of academic and industry experience in traditional ceramics practice, Sean Jackson continually aims to find ways to preserve the craft. While based in Sydney, Jackson has trained overseas in Italy, China, Korea and Japan, seeking to revive techniques that have become lost or endangered due to industrialisation, changes in manufacturing methodologies, and shifting social perspectives.
By focusing on the analysis of historical technologies, Jackson is able to develop new techniques, producing a hybrid craft in contemporary art and design. His handmade ceramic ware is fired up to 1300°C through a variety of methods to enable maximum strength, durability and safety for the user. Jackson aims to renew an appreciation of pottery with an emphasis on practice-based research, community support and education, resulting in diverse approaches to alchemy via testing, analysis and development.
