In this work, Oliver Ma invites the viewer to traverse a dreamlike landscape that blurs the line between fantasy and reality. 'Vermilion' is an immersive narrative experience, designed to explore a progressive paradigm of spatial storytelling. Participants can unfurl the story of the character Jun Cheng, a 1.5 generation Chinese-Australian, who must overcome an identity crisis to win the affection of Elizabeth 'Ellie' Fitzgerald, an Irish immigrant. The work makes extensive use of procedural 3D modelling, texturing and visual effects techniques.
