Millie Mitchell’s practice explores the dichotomy of appearance and reality, particularly in response to interpretations of history. Through the mediums of drawing and printmaking, Mitchell engages with text and illustration to expose, challenge, and subvert depictions of women in Australian history. In this project, she manipulates conventions of the newspaper to explore alternative facts of Sydney’s criminal past, and reveal the reality of female experience in the 1920s and '30s.
