The edge
Lisa Carrett’s painting practice engages with the way post-colonial notions of home may be deconstructed within the Australian landscape. Featurism and the construction of Australian working class neighbourhoods drive the subject matter of her painting. Through returning to places of significance from her own childhood, Carrett explores key ideas surrounding her origin as well as a national longing for home. Her work evokes a sense of nostalgia, yet through the uncanny, recognises its darker, colonial histories.
