'Civilised Roots' is a sculptural furniture design that seeks to capture the complex and opposing stories that have defined Australia. Widely accepted counter-narratives that have warped and crafted how Australia’s past has been remembered, are deliberately knotted together. Rather than focusing on a singular view of colonisation, this project melds many stories into an abstract mass of textile and tree limbs, allowing us to sit with and amongst the knotty intermingling of histories, witnessed, told, silenced and manipulated by Australia.
