'The First Bakers' is a recipe book that exhibits the beauty of Australian native food plants and the cultural stories attached to them, encouraging a greater appreciation for the diversity of Australian history. The project aims to build greater awareness of the overlooked history of Aboriginal peoples’ sophisticated food systems and agriculture. Aboriginal Nations and early settlers’ connections to native flora and fauna around New South Wales are featured through the diverse cultural food stories, ingredients and traditional cooking techniques. The stories to be told from New South Wales have been re-imagined into recipes for the contemporary domestic kitchen.
