Malaynium
This narrative short film expresses the tensions of preserving heritage culture in a modern era as reflected in the film's title 'Malaynium' which is a play on the words 'Malay' and 'millennium'. Throughout the film, Azri Wan metaphorically focuses on preserving Jawi script writing which has now been replaced by Roman script in Malaysia, and embodies this theme in the characters Jawi and Rumi. The two characters enter a relationship, but it gets complicated when Jawi has to further her studies abroad. Can the couple endure the pain of a long distance relationship?
