Rubber Duckie, You’re the One. You Make Nostalgia Lots of Fun
Through this series, Lylah Livingston explores colour theory, abstraction, and the psychology of colour in her representations of a rubber duck. By depicting this childhood kitsch object, Livingston creates a positive space between artwork and audience, establishing a sense of nostalgia as well as composing a cocoon of warm colour through circular forms. With influence from Tomma Abts and Hilma AF Klint, this series evokes the viewer's emotional relationship with colour and its effects on memory. This work further experiments with how an object can symbolise bathroom aesthetics while comprising aspects of geometry, abstraction, and consumerism.
