Fluff and Nonsense
Viewing the bedroom as an ecosystem, ‘Fluff and Nonsense’ analyses the textiles production system in its entirety, from seed through to fibre, fabric, garment and finally waste. Through the process of hand spinning, weaving and sewing Australian Pima cotton from the seed into a finished garment, the project engages with hand making in a way that has become foreign to the designer in contemporary Australia. The project synthesises connections between the importance of the local in a broader context of global manufacturing, and the imperative to examine waste at a minute scale as it innovates, changes and reorganises existing aspects of daily life that often go unnoticed.
