The Nanny State: Australia
Alcohol plays many roles in contemporary Australian society, and is arguably an intrinsic part of Australian culture. However, excessive drinking in Australia has led to many violent behaviors. In 2014, the NSW government declared a lockout law to reduce alcohol abuse. However, the lockout laws have not greatly reduced the incidence of violence, but have instead limited the rights and freedoms of its people. In order to raise awareness of the drinking problem in Australia while critiquing the government’s response of over-regulation, Liangzi Xing has designed a jewellery series reflecting how the public feels about this issue.
