Detail of 'The Men and the Work'
'No Ram's Land' explores how sheep shearing in Australia is perceived by tourists and the public as a hyper-performance of ‘strong masculine labour’, departing from reality to maintain a frail mythological identity. By intertwining historical legacies of Heidelberg paintings with contemporary shearing demonstrations, the work intends to subvert reality, evoking a sense of the 'spectral'. This is complimented through textile-based practices to mislead ideas on status and accuracy in representation.
